Dr. Kumar Chhugani did his MBBS and MS in ophthalmology from, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum. Following which he had the opportunity of being trained under some stalwarts in ophthalmology i.e. Dr. Kanti Mody, Dr. R.H.Muljiani, Dr. Firoze Patel.

Thereafter he underwent a rigorous training programme (fellowship) in vitro-retina for 2 years at S.B. Sohan Singh Eye Hospital, Punjab. The centre is known for pioneering the modem vitreo-retinal surgery in northern India, and affiliated with California University.

He also did his fellowship in phacoemulsification cataract surgery from K.B.Haji Bachoolia Eye Hospital. He is currently into private practice since 8 years with facilities for both cataract and retina surgeries. He heads the retina department in Prince Aly Khan Hospital. He is also an invited faculty to Poona for performing retinal lasers and surgery.
